Chinese equities attract the most attention within Asian markets

The upcoming partial inclusion of A-shares in the MSCI indices may fuel demand for Chinese equity funds.

Compared to their counterparts in other Asian markets, interest in Chinese equity funds held up very well in recent weeks while Indian equity funds continue to suffer most. Further inflows are expected as MSCI will add around 230 mainland traded big-caps to its emerging market benchmark in a two-step process in June and September.

Three funds stand out with a particularly big increase in interest: Only launched in October, the Blackrock China A-Share Opportunities Fund already has the second highest interest within the peer group, only beaten by the UBS China Opportunity Fund. This demand for the Blackrock fund originated primarily from investors in Switzerland serviced by Global Financial Institutions, followed by investors in Singapore. Demand for the Xtrackers MSCI China has predominantely been driven out of Germany, Austria and Italy. Hong Kong domiciled Schroder China Equity Alpha Fund raised the most interest amongst clients of Global Financial Institutions based in Hong Kong as well as in Singapore.
