fundinfo has officially launched “openfunds” in Asia the open source data standard, following events in Zurich and Frankfurt earlier this year. With a turnout of over 70 people both in Hong Kong and Singapore from fund houses and distributors the presentation was a roaring success and the new standard was much appreciated. All agreed, the fund industry wants and needs a standard to transmit fund data to all parties involved to increase accuracy and efficiency.
Michael Partin a partner at fundinfo and one of the openfunds committee members covered how the framework came about and how it will revolutionise the dissemination of data. (see openfunds blog posted on October 8th). Special guest speakers as Charis Wong, VP for Funds & ETFs at Credit Suisse in Hong Kong and John Cappetta, ED Head of Funds Advisory from Julius Baer in Singapore, confirmed that standardised, accurate and timely data is critical for a distributor to help them analyse and sell funds. In closing Alexander Looijen, fundinfo representative in Singapore, covered how fundinfo will support the industry with its efficient fund data dissemination which use the openfunds taxonomy.
