Newsletter No. 17

April 21, 2011

With this edition of our newsletter, we wish to inform you about our services in connection with the new Key Investor Information Document (KIID). The KIID is due to be introduced on 1 July 2011 with the entry into force of the UCITS IV directive and will replace the simplified prospectus in Europe by 1 July 2012 at the latest.

A challenge for fund providers

The KIID represents a major challenge for fund providers in terms of production and distribution. With this new document type, the number of documents is set to increase many times over. While simplified prospectuses are drawn up for individual funds and umbrella funds, KIIDs will need to be created for each fund share class. At the same time, fund providers will need to provide their distribution partners with solutions for obtaining the latest KIIDs quickly and efficiently.

Services provided by

We at shall not be drawing up KIIDs ourselves: we shall be leaving this to the fund providers and specialist service providers.

Our core business is collecting and distributing fund documents. Therefore, we shall be playing a key role in the distribution of KIIDs to distribution partners for our 240 clients.

Please note that the dispatch of KIIDs to your distribution partners in Germany, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein and Switzerland will be included in our membership fee and is therefore free of charge for our clients.

Two different distribution methods are already up and running at fundinfo:

  1. Distribution via gateway interfaces: This is the current method of dispatch to large distribution partners. fundinfo currently supplies more than 100 platforms of banks, sales organizations, trading systems, core banking systems and financial media—and the figure is set to rise further.
  2. Distribution by email: This second method is suitable for smaller distribution partners and is also already available free of charge on in the five countries mentioned above.

For fund providers who wish to send KIIDs to their distribution partners in all EU countries, from now on we offer dispatch via the new platform

Here, fund providers may choose whether to create distribution lists themselves—whereby they decide which distribution partners receive the KIIDs for which funds and in which language—or allow their distribution partners to subscribe to the KIIDs themselves. will be a closed user group accessible exclusively to fund providers and their registered distributors and will cover fund documents for more than twenty countries.

Four good reasons to work with for KIID distribution:
  1. fundinfo has the leading database of original fund documents (currently more than 1.6 million) in Europe and Asia;
  2. Our core business is the distribution of fund documents: we currently supply more than 100 platforms of major sales partners;
  3. The KIID represents no new challenge for us but is, in fundinfo’s business logic, simply an additional document type that we collect and publish;
  4. Distribution of KIIDs is free of charge for our clients as it is included in our membership fee.

If you would like to find out more about KIID distribution, simply email us at and we will gladly get in touch with you.

Yours faithfully,

Your team
